Goodison began her career as a reporter at The Gleaner newspaper in 1953. At the same time, she worked as a columnist for the Jamaica Star under the alias “Stella.” Gloudon received distinction from the Press Association of Jamaica in 1964, the first year of the Seprod Awards for Journalism, and again in 1968.

Greta Fowler, who created Jamaica’s Little Theatre Movement (LTM) with her husband Henry, commissioned Gloudon to write a script for the annual pantomime show upon her return to Jamaica after nearly a month in the UK in 1969. Gloudon left journalism in 1978 and went on to work as the director of the Jamaica Tourist Board until 1981, when she started her own public relations agency. She presented the radio chat show Hotline, which was broadcast by Radio Jamaica Rediffusion beginning in the late 1980s (RJR 94 FM).

Gloudon became chair of the LTM in the 1990s and directed the National Pantomime’s annual Boxing Day premiere. Barbara was awarded the Order of Jamaica in 1992, which he received at the Caribbean Publishing and Broadcasting Association and Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s Caribbean Media Awards ceremony.
